Hi to all of you.
I'm from the Netherlands.
Since I can't draw or paint I want to try my hand at fractals.
I'm a Gimp user and became a member of GimpChat forum.
There I saw fractals by PhotoComix.
I understood he was using Mandelbulb and I wanted to make similar things.
I am using Gentoo Linux exclusively so I installed mandelbulber.
I tried all kinds of settings but the results were nowhere near what PhotoComix showed on GimpChat.
Today I googled "mandelbulber3d" and that's how I got to this site.
I can now run it in Linux w/o having to install Windows thanks to "wine".
So far I've only installed it and started it.

As for myself I'm an 86 years old retired electronics engineer.
My health is not great but that's what comes with ageing.

I'm sure I'll be back with questions.
Gerard.

hello and welcome to the forums

that pushes the average age in the forums a little higher wink

so, for starting with mandelbulber and scene setup, photocomix does tutorials as well, just
search it on google, beside of that, it is really much try and fail, some things might be hard to achieve
or not that easy to find in the user interface, for getting a general understanding what is going
on behind the scenes you might find my little youtube show interesting, here i explain the
math behind the mandelbox
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/1yeANz-sxWA&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/1yeANz-sxWA&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1</a>

this should give you just an idea of what is needed to calculate a fractal, looking forward seeing your efforts

yes, in the settings of your profile page you have a menu entry called "Notifications and  Email " there you have to check the  " Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic. " option, default is off

Was wondering how your exploration into the Mandelbulb is going??   Have heard nothing from you since this initial Topic that you posted back in July.
