Hi Everybody --

I'm new to this forum and just kind of floating right now. Several years ago, I actually had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Mandebrot. From that time on, I have been fascinated with the 2D Mandelbrot set and Julia sets. The work being done here with 3D sets is incredibly beautiful and I'm planning on doing some exploring here too.

Lately, although I speak many computer languages, I have been focusing on Java because of its cross-platform capabilities. Also, after many years working on big machines -- no snobbery intended -- and PC's, I migrated to the wonderful world of Mac. I say that sincerely; very slick. Things just work, from the bare metal all the way up to the GUI's.

So my basic question: Does Mandelbulb support both Mac and Java? Please let me know. Being a newbie, I'm also not sure that this is the correct way or place to post this message. If not, please be gentle. Thanks.

Welcome begen!

Not quite sure what you mean by Mandelbulb. There are several programs out there (and in here grin) that create Mandelbulbs, -boxes and other 3D stuff, some for Windows, some for Mac. If you want some assistance in programming your own fractal software, there are many experts here to help you along! You'll find your way here, I'm sure.

Welcome begen! Madman said it quite well, why do you mean by Mandelbulb? Hopefully some Mac & bulb fans will give you some feedback.

Madman, bib, and fractallissima --

Thanks for your replies and questions. I was referring to the Mandelbulb3d v1.6.8 downloadable software, which I assume builds Mandelbulbs, given appropriate prameters, etc. Being into Java, I was wondering if there are any hooks or API's that can be used from Java or any other programming language or whether the Mandelbulb software is completely self contained. As for my question about Mac compatibility, that appears to be a positive from bib's reference to Mac fans. So maybe I'm ready to download and start playing. Thanks, again. smiley

Mandelbulb3D runs only on Windows, you'll need Wine or an equivalent, but as I'm not Mac, I have no clue, and I'm not sure any Mandelbulb program (M3D is not the only one) runs natively on Mac.
