I found that most programs which are not currently ported to mac will run through a wineskin wrapper. This is how the mandelbulb3d software is distrubuted for mac. I have tried it with many programs (non-fractal stuff also) and not had many that don't work. I am currently using Apophysis 7x and mandelbulb3d via its wrapper technology. look here for more details - http://wineskin.urgesoftware.com/tiki-index.php . I am happy to offer advice if people struggle to get something working.
