How do you avoid this, happens alot when trying to get into tight spaces in weird shaped fractals, makes it hard to find a good spot inside a smaller area, even when I should have tons of room.

Sounds to me like you're close to something, maybe just a pixel. Try increasing the far plane and see if the walls come back
