If we consider , for a moment, the very wide variety of faces that we perceive as faces in nature, from those of insects, mammals, Lizards etc , we may gain a perspective on our "face recognition software" in our brains.

Naturally we will want to be drawn to "mummys" face and away from any others , only gradually learning to accept other faces. It is a natural instinct to be scared of say the face of a bee, or a fly. After all, they do not look anything like your mothers face!
