In chaoscope we are using Strange Attractors. Some vanish at higher iterations (but it usually posts a warning like "No attractor after "X" iterations).
Try lowering the iterations...

It depends on formula and iteration rate. Julia quaternions are more special, as one half can disappear in preview mode when level is greater than 15. (disabling auto-adjust is the key, the vanished half come usually back while rendering). However, rendering time can be very long, some took me over 2 hours with highest iteration rate.
It can also depend on settings, when those are really close to limits (error message appears). Preview shows a curious shape or something near, but when you start rendering, nothing comes.

hmmm all interesting replies! It seems that the more finer detailed the image is the less likely it will render. Tried higher & lower. Auto adjust & manual.. ( not sure doing it right) but continue to experiment. Trial & error. I did get one done with eliminating the color & lighht variances. Got the detail but really boring. Maybe my pc just can't handle the detail? Once again I feel like GOLDYLOCKS! (My old business name) Just right is out there somewhere....

I found that in lowering iterations I would usually lose "detail"

Can you post the file?
If it wont attach due to format, just open it with a text editor, then copy and paste here!

As I tought, you are very close to a "limit", the formula looks like a Pringle (sour cream -onion flavour^^). The pickover chips appears only in preview mode, a central dot appears after rendering. For testing renders, you should low iteration rate and maximise it only when you're sure of what you want. Time is precious^^ I tweaked it a little (A to -3, B to 0, C to -3 and D to 0, all cursors on left), if you do as me, you should normally obtain a shape like this And do not forget to low the iteration rate for test, it's enormous !

Love the analogy! lol 1st of all I'm REALLY CONFUSED being that your image looks NOTHING like mine. From the Chascope manual...Preview Simple preview: Enable it if the enhanced preview causes problem. When enabled, the preview reverts to a more basic method common to all rendering modes. Iterations: Number of points displayed by default. Depending on the computer speed, the full set of points may fade in after being calculated in the background. Minimum Iterations: Minimum number of points Chaoscope will calculate before the preview is updated. Maximum Iterations: When Scale is greater than 1, Chaoscope adds points to keep the density constant. Maximum Iterations sets a limit to how many points will be added. I have tried "simple preview" & even that will not render. I have gotten a few slightly saimpler ones to render; soo as you mentioned could be "close to limit?" I have "played with all settings.. Typing in iteration in preview, leaving it alone, etc. Never had this issue with ChoasPro. My only other experience with fractal programs.

very curious. I never had any problem with Chaoscope. Does it happen with all formulas or just with pickover ones ?
The limit I mentionned is when the shape in preview reduce to a spiral of dots (in Pickover case) then a single dot or a white screen which means overflow or something like that.
Maybe you should try to remove and reinstall chaoscope, a classic alternative solution...

Not just "pickover" I can recreate that image with most. Reinstal? might not be a bad idea, had done that previously with WMM & it was a success.

It seems to be that if (under the actractor window it says a an iterations # of 4294967295) it cannot be rendered under any surcumstances. Just a way of teasing & tormenting me! Nothing higher than 20000000. Does the personal PC or graphics card make a difference?

Maybe your hardware is the main limit to your creativity (with chaoscope). I can render a fractal with max iteration rate, but it will take between 2-3 hours for a standard 1280/1024 image. With a good laptop (but not enough for Tacitus, Incendia, mandelbulber....)

That's probably right! My PC will try to render up to about 1:42 min.? but loses it after 2o min. Iteration gets dramatically lowered. Have had no problems with ChasPro. But I do have to admit I've learned more from this defeat. (as with everything in life)
