strong and blurry reflections howto?

I recently went back to Mandelbulb3D and again, my learning process is to try to reproduce things that I like so I learn what parameter does what. I'm not trying to copycat other's job in any way.
So I tried to reproduce this awesome job from batjorge on deviant art:


here is where I am right now after 2 hours:


The upper portion is without transparency, the lower portion is with (DoF is missing due to recalculation)
As you can see, the reflection is really stunning with transparency but the colors changed. Also it's not blurry as on batjorge's. I don't know why and am frustrated. I tweaked the absorption, refraction and scattering but no luck.
