This first one is pretty simple, just a 3d Mandelbulb with a scalar time function built into the magnitude: r1= sqrt (x^2 + y^2 +z^2 + time^2).

I only multiplied the angle by 5 or 6 (forget, I bet you can tell by the pattern, I suppose I will find out too: hahaha, 7) but took the magnitude to the 11th power in order to smooth out the contours of the fractal (I also used a large bailout and  low iterations (I think it was 5 or 6)).  I ended up getting this cute cartoony flower growy thing:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/K597mPrU61E&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/K597mPrU61E&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1</a>

Here are a couple of related 6 dimensional algebraically rotated animations, one created before I discovered the benefits of light source manipulation, one after (at the same location of the fractal, although I did change the number of angular multiplications, the color, and... well, played with the light sources):

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/9Jzfdr1Zh6Y&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/9Jzfdr1Zh6Y&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1</a>

Here is the lower angular rotation version (different times as well, noted in my youtube description):

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/J-w-JeIa1PA&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/J-w-JeIa1PA&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1</a>

There are a couple other ones as well, none of them that long.  They were 5 dimensional (3 space, 2 rotational time dimensions) fractals, used the trigonometric method to calculate them.

I used ChaosPro to generate these, and have been using algebraic coding recently.  I can post the rather sloppy code, but I should probably do that in the implementation/theory channels.  I think it's basically the same as some of the other stuff I've seen around here, but generalized....

After looking at the flash video conversions... I think I need to find a better conversion method, or perhaps use higher bitrates?

  I dunno....

I'm now fairly sure that for YouTube animations you should use Xvid/VirtualDub if you are on a Windows system (if you can't afford the commercial professional stuff).
Use Xvid in the 2 pass mode, in VirtualDub for the first pass configure tthe Xvid codec to 1st pass and go to save the animation, then use the size calculation tool in the Xvid codec configuration to calculate the target bitrate, set the codec to second pass then tell VirtualDub to save the file using the same filename as the first pass.

  Thanks David.

I uploaded the original AVIs to youtube, instead of the flv's I created (wasn't aware you could upload other formats, I suppose I could RTFM).  They were encoded with Radius's cinepak codec instead of xvid, and I wasn't sure if re-encoding them is/was necessary for better quality (I suppose I could do so, I do have virtualdub installed).  I'd think I would lose quality by re-encoding, but maybe not.

I did notice what may be an illusory improvement in video quality (changed the youtube links, deleted the old videos).  The "cave of wonders" (cave of blunders may be a more appropriate name at this point) video still lost quality when youtube converted it to flash video.  This may be due to the low resolution of the original video (320x256) being resized by youtube to 640x480 (I did notice that the youtube manual said to upload videos at 640x480 for maximal quality).

I will have to find some timed fractal I like, record a 640x480 animation of it, and try that on for size.

Though it is a short video, I liked watching it "bloom" into view.

The undulating effect of this video is quite interesting!!    smiley

Thanks,

I've been working on a much weirder format/formula over in the "search for the holy grail" thread so I missed out on your reply.

No problem, there are so many Boards and sub-Boards that it is difficult to keep track of them all.
