I would love to get some forum action geared towards Oculus Rift and Mandelbulb 3D 360 Movie production.  Does anyone have any experience doing this?  Please chime in if so!-)

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong (and I hope I am, would make everything much nicer when working with VR!) - with pre-rendered material, you can have either 3D, or 360, but not both.  This is because your eyes move in space when you rotate your head, so you can't just pre-render 2x 360 panoramic videos and expect it to work sad

As far as I know the only solution is rendering in realtime, but you might be able to reduce the calculations required for realtime rendering by pre-rendering the more-high intensity calculations into a non-image-based format.

You can render in small narrow-angle slices and stitch the panorama together:

There are some viewers available. I got a Google Cardbox thing some month ago, and tried the Panereo VR viewer for iOS (which does stereoscopic panoramic viewing) - it sure works.

If you have some better equipment (like a Oculus), try out the WebVR/WebGL enabled KrPano demo:
http://krpano.com/forum/wbb/index.php?page=Thread&postID=58228#post58228

Btw, it should be possible to modify the Fragmentarium 3d.frag to output stereoscopic panoramas.

That wouldn't work for roll, though? Pitch and yaw can be done this way, but doing all 3 degrees convincingly seems hard?
Tilting your head is that isn't natural, but not having the vr respond to micro movements is very jarring.

Good point - I don't know. The Panereo VR viewer does not support roll (this movement is used to zoom).
If anyone has an Oculus, you could try the KrPano demos - there should be stereoscopic panorama demo included.

Btw, From this very recent Blender blog post, it seems that they have succes with the Oculus and panoramas:

Fantastic fellow fractalians! You have been extremely helpful2.  I will add my own review after testing the above techniques.  It sounds like 360 3D is not an option yet (without roll, eh), but a man can dream... can't he?  It will be quite a thing to have it available to us.

Also, after researching more based on a Z depth hunch, this also sounds interesting:

...using Z Depth to "kluge" stereopanoramic, "Stereoscopic 3D using Reprojection"

Have a look at http://www.360cities.net/
Easy to create VR compatible 360 and 720 views there.

I have no idea how its done, but some 3d 360 content is already available on the Gear VR, including a fractal flythrough thingy by Julius Horsthuis called From Nothing
https://www.wearvr.com/#game_id=game_983

and yeah I've already made some stuff, recommended render settings are 3840x1920 , when compressing to h264.mp4 file use ridic high bitrates of 20mbit or higher to get any detail on distant stuff

do you have a gear vr or oculus rift and want to try some of my stuff I can post it here, but it's all rough work not really finished

This Julius Horsthuis has some more VR trailers on vimeo .
And some awesome HR movies too.

The Cryogenian teaser trailer:

Very nice VR experiences can be created using just 360 degrees. 3D really does not add that much. If you make 360 videos, there are already channels to publish your work (Milk VR and others).
Even 360 still renders can be viewed and very much enjoyed, so if you render some 360 views of some of your work they would be appreciated by the VR community as well.
