Hi all!

I am a communications lecturer from Australia who has a hobby interest in art and music. I didn't have the opportunity in my education to learn much about fractals (among many other things including physics and math more generally) beyond the name Mandelbrot, so I am a complete beginner who is completely self-taught in even the most basic of trigonometry :s . I guess you could say I am looking for new directions in life more generally. I am here because I am in the process of reading a book about fractals and want to extend on that initial knowledge. I'd be interested in applying ideas about the fractal dimension to my art and/or music. Currently, I am interested in the box-counting method, the Hausdorff equation of coastlines (not even sure if I am saying that correctly), how fractals change with entropy, and just the general idea of fractals as an in-between dimension. But that's just because those are the only ways in which I know how to think about fractals so far! I'm hoping to learn a lot and not ask too many silly questions!

Any links to fractal-related art or sound that you find interesting would be much appreciated! I'm also lecturing in media art in 2014 so if there are any little freeware programs or code that you enjoy that makes fractal patterns, please send them my way/send me their way and I'll give you a shout-out in my class. smiley

Cheers
Alinta

hi there, hello and welcome to the forums, let me point you to my little youtube channel that deals
with all kinds of fractals and the forums, news, gallery, history, tutorials
http://www.youtube.com/user/kommissario

and let me give you the starting point, an explanation of what is going on when the mandelbox is calculated
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/1yeANz-sxWA&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/1yeANz-sxWA&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1</a>

in the beginning of next years a show introducing the mandelbrot math is going to kick off, similar to the above
i have very few views on the channel, but i still think although its kinda strange presentation you really can
get something out of it wink
