How to input custom formulas?

Hi everyone, I am new here and would like to make some wonderful 3D fractal videos. I see there are options for different fractals, however I would like to try my own formulas or just mess around but do not see the option and could not find how to input your own. If it is possible, can someone tell me or point me in the right direction? If it is difficult I am willing to learn.

the only way to insert own formulas is by writing them hard coded in c++ or straight assembler, and include them in the plugins folder,
for experimenting i would suggest you try out "fragmentarium"  although it might seems hard to include own formulas, you find the developer
of the program here, and with the right scripts you can create own formulas without fiddling too much with distance estimates ... hope
it helps it is using GLSL to define the images, and comes with a loadful of example scripts

you need a pretty capable GPU though:

There's also the brute force raytracer (so no distance estimation), which works good enough to get a rough idea of how the surface looks even on my old NV 9400M.  Note that the current binary release has a couple of slight bugs in the shaders, but you can fix that with any old text editor.  Listed here: http://www.fractalforums.com/fragmentarium/fragmentarium-1-0-beta-1/msg64200/#msg64200

there is no official tutorial, but it has roughly been discussed in the forums, but i am afraid you would have to search
for yourself, or try asking the currently only one who did nearly all of the plugin formulas: darkbeam

If you want to just create 3-D images and/or videos by inputting your own formulas, without having to learn anything more than the basic functions of the fractal application, then I would suggest some of the programs written by Terry Gintz of "Mytic Fractal".  Most of his programs contain a formula parser for handling self-made formulas.

Plus, you can output the rendered 3-D fractal into one of several 3-D formats, if you wish to import into a 3-D rendering application (like Bryce, Vue, etc...).
