I usually zoom into fractals with Anti-aliasing turned off, and using a virtual screen (especially if I'm generating HD sized images - 1920x1080) so an erroneous click of a mouse button which accidentally maximises the window doesn't force a recalculation, for example.

If I then want to turn on anti-aliasing (especially for smaller images that do fit on the screen) I have to turn off the virtual screen option, turn on anti-aliasing and close the dialog box.  This then forces a recalculation. I then look back at the advanced settings dialog box to see that anti-aliasing isn't even on, which then forces yet another recalculation.

Is this normal behaviour, or is it some sort of bug. The whole thing becomes ten times more complicated when using multiple windows in one instance of the program, as it has to be repeated for every window, and checked several times.

All to much of a pain in the neck as far as I'm concerned.

Bruce, could you please take a look at this, and while you're at it:

  • how come in this day and age you can only have one colour palette loaded at a time
  • why do the make poster, advanced settings dialog box and zoom movie windows open up modally and stop you performing any other task?
  • why can you not have anti-aliasing and virtual screen on both at the same time.  I create 1920x1080 images for display on my Sony Bravia TV, and I'd like to have them anti-aliased without having to enter the 'Make Poster' facility

Just a few items that I feel could be looked at.

To anyone viewing my posts and finding missing/broken links to a website called www.needanother.co.uk, I still own the domain but recently cancelled my server (saving £30/month) so even though the domain address exists, it points nowhere.  I hope to one day sort something out but for now - sorry!

Yep, it seems that when AA is turned off, it has to be turned on again via the View menu. Also, even though AA was set to 4x4 before, it will automatically reset to 3x3 if originally turned off via the Advanced settings, causing you to have to first click view->antialiased and then set AA to 4x4 in Advanced settings if you want 4x4 AA.

I also agree with your other points.
