I'm going to do something different with this one. Partly because it could get quite long, and partly because parts of it will be fairly repetitive. Rather than post everything to the Fractal Art gallery, I'll post mostly to this thread (and host mostly offsite to spare cKleinhuis's poor beleaguered servers ) and mostly lower resolution images (800x600). The most impressive, different, or interesting images will get a higher resolution and a gallery post. Those will show up a bit larger here (1024x768) as well as at 1280x960 in the gallery (possibly later than here).

Thanks ... that last one was around 4e30 magnification compared to a fairly standard Mandelbrot initial view. Center coordinates are:

The effect of long, wavy lines of stuff wrapping around and then curling into spirals comes from zooming into an elephant trunk to a spot a few revolutions deep into the spiral, rather than just the surface. Note the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth images in this thread. If you look closely at the spirals in the second, third, and fourth images, at the structure of the arms, you'll notice bare double-spirals dotted along in the second, but with an extra winding of stuff around them in the third and two extra windings in the fourth.

It won't surprise you to know that I am watching this series closely, can't wait for each new post, and just love the details and the colouring again.

I've been playing around with your UF version and have posted half a dozen things at dA and I just love it still!!!

Thank you! Pharmagician, I'd like to see you post some more of your output here...Adam, a mix of custom and off-the-shelf code here. Time on these has increased but the latest few have taken a few hours each. The iterations are still pretty low (around 5000) but the precision bits are getting fairly numerous.
