These show that there is much more to the Mandelbrot set than I had ever envisaged and the deeper you go the more interesting it gets. The thing that surprised me most was the distorted Mandelbrot island in the first picture in this thread, I had always assumed that any islands would appear to be copies of the set as a whole. My software (Saturn & Titan) use long doubles which are fine for most uses but completely inadequate for such deep exploration.

The mandelbrot set has almost infinitely many things to explore, it's really an amazing fractal. I think you should also have a look at stardust4ever's gallery on deviantart, some very interesting finds there, like this:

I found it's also very interesting to combine this zoom method with other tricks to get even weirder shapes.

I posted a port to UF's coloring formula language of the coloring in another thread fairly recently. The Mandelbrot here is bog-standard.
