Hello everyone. After lurking around in the background for a few months now, I've decided to join and have read a lot of interesting post here and have seen some of the most beautiful fractal pieces displayed. I am still new to fractals (well creating them) and am always fascinated by their complexity of shape and color. Math truly is a beautiful thing. Currently I work with the older programs such as Sterling 2 which is my main fractal generating program. I have played around a bit with Tierazon, and am still trying to figure out Apophysis 7x (I will be revisiting the threads for it again). I dream of one day getting UF but due to finances, it will remain a dream for now. One of the things I would like to do is find a really good site that explains the math behind the beauty since I am unable to find a class here in CT that is specific to fractals. Until then, I will continue my journeys through deep zooming and discovery. Although I've not been here long, I am enjoying my time and hope to be here for a while amongst everyone else who love fractals just as much as I do.  Thanks for having me and see ya around smiley

hello and welcome to the forums
i try to explain the theory in my youtube sessions wink right now you can watch 2 of them, in the one i try to explain fractal dimension, in the other why complex multiplication is a rotation wink they are not final, but could serve as a start, check out the tutorial section in the tvshow boards

Thank you CK and David! This will definitely give me a better understanding into the math that makes up fractals and the colors. I have been making some formulas in Tierazon, but it's basically changing around some of the factors in the equation with no real understanding as to what does what. I don't have a strong trig background, but can recognize some of them when placed in the fractal equations. I like seeing the changes and am like a kid opening up a gifts on Christmas as I await to see what I get. Some results have been good and others have been more on the what the heck happened level lol. So again, Thank you thank you thank you cheesy

Well, then you should try Chaos Pro. It is a clone of Ultra Fracal. In Chaos Pro will work 80% of Ultra Fractal formulas and you 'll be able to open 50% of UF parameters. And UF have enermous database with formulas. It's kind of unethical of free software working with formulas and parameters of comercial, but it works prety nice. Just don't open newest and bigest formula files like mmf5 or reb5 or it will crash. But EM will work, I still don't have UF license so I made formulas and colour working in both UF and Chaos Pro.

Those are the two I use the most CK. I am starting with the old and kind of moving  my way up with fractal programs. My reasoning is the good old saying "you have to crawl before you walk" approach to fractals. I like writing small formulas in Tierazon using the sin() and cos() and then changing the julia x and y parameters in small increments, but even changing it by a 10th yields some interesting results.

Asdam, I've tried Chaos Pro and got lost with it lol. I started off pretty good and then forgot what the heck I did in the first place to get what I did get. I had this really nice cone shaped fractal with a flame background. It looked like candy (yummy grin) but didn't save it, because I didn't get a chance to. CP froze up and I never went back to it really after that. Thanks for the heads up about the crashing issue. I am wondering if it froze because of the reason that you've stated in your post. I will give it another shot minus the mmf5 and reb5 formulas. Thanks for the links too grin
