Hello,
I had to spend hours upon hours getting here...
So I just wanted to share this info to others that might be new and interested.
I've chosen the word "spend" instead of "waste" because I've learned oh so much from having a set goal.
If I wouldn't have bumped into all these problems, I would definitely have been too lazy to know everything I do about this program today.
Here's the line of progression/discovery...
Why can't I set the path for a sound and where's the Sound tab?Animation from Sound has been silently disabled from Mandelbulber.
In current versions, the tab doesn't exist, this is due to the fact that structual changes in the code caused alot of bugs to this feature. The feature is not a current priority in the main (only?) development branch of this program.
Therefore it's been disabled. This was revealed in another post on this forum by Krzysztof (Buddhi)
Temporary I have postponed development of sound animation feature. I have completely removed it from the latest version of the Mandelbulber. There were to many bugs in this part of program which become when I have changed program structure. Now I also have to change completely handling of parameters, to make it more flexible. I will return with sound animation function in next releases. I'm sorry for the confusion.
The date is 14-feb, 1 day after the release of Mandelbulber 0.98 (which was released on my birthday)
If it was disabled in 0.98, does it work in 0.97?No, the program structure that Krzysztof is talking about above was not made in 0.98. The non-working feature was simply removed in this version. 0.97 is the version that has the bugs that are referred to in the quote above.
So it works in earlier versions? No, the feature does not work in any available version of Mandelbulber.
The oldest available version (Win32) of Mandelbulber (
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mandelbulber/files/) is 0.96
Aren't there any older versions?Finding earlier versions than 0.96 is not an easy match. A search for "Mandelbulber deprecated" on Google reveals there are deprecated versions on the Google Site...
http://code.google.com/p/mandelbulber/downloads/list?can=4&q=&colspec=Filename+Summary+Uploaded+ReleaseDate+Size+DownloadCountThe earliest version is 0.95 (Win-32) and 0.93 (Linux-32)
Which version does the Animate by Sound feature work in then!?!
Well

I don't know if there's any version later than 0.85 where this is working. But since the feature was released in 0.85 it should obivously work in that version.
Now... Aquiring 0.85 was NOT an easy task, since it's not officially available.
The files however all all named
mandelbulber-win32-0.xx.zip where
xx is the version. So I searched for mandelbulber-win32-0.85.zip on google and found this really slow Brazilian site which didn't link to Sourceforge:
http://www.mathematikos.com.br/aprendendoaaprender/index.php/freeware/Since it's very very slow, I've uploaded the .zip on my own host...
You can get it here:
http://www.alarian.se/fractals/mandelbulber-win32-0.85.zipAnd after 3 crashes trying to render the example settings sound animation.fract, it finally worked
Oh... And 0.85 for Linux is not to be found anywhere...
