when i wanted to take a look at the latest blogs of orbit trap (http://orbittrap.ca/), i got a dns error as reply huh?, as if this domain wouldn't even exist.
a pitty - their blogs were always quite entertaining, although not always substantiated.

does anyone know what happened to them? did they forget to pay their bills for domain hosting?

Yes.  Sort of.

Here's the inside scoop...

10 year hosting package ($1.67/mo!)
- Included domain registration
- but only for 2 years...
- suddenly deleted from DNS
- phone call, 15 minutes...
- all solved, back online for $10 CDN (best .ca rates!)
- mental note:
- do this a month earlier next year
- ignition, lift-off, go with throttle up...
- sonic boom in the blogosphere!

But what if Orbit Trap had really just disappeared from the internet?  Any thoughts?  Feelings?

Write your "eulogy" for Orbit Trap.  Pretend this was Orbit Trap's funeral.  Be honest.  Don't just say a bunch of nice things to be polite...

i got known to orbittrap relatively late, 2 years ago or some, it belongs to the growing sphere of fractal-websites that actually "update" on a regularly base, with not just images .... for me it is just a sign that i am not alone in the universe addicted to fractals in any way, sometimes a little ashaming ( when it comes to bashing of a certain fractal contest, that seems to be worth of 5+ bashing articles ... sorry, this just comes over to me as a guy in rage that has somehow overcome with some members .... ) i love the praising of the forums, and reviewing of what forums members do

in fact i use orbittrap to attract ad-publisher or coop partners to the site, i just say: "there is a blog reviewing postings, check out the review here: orbittraplink"
