Are there any fractal programs that support outputting a 2D color image as well as a grayscale image representing the corresponding 3D depth map?
My application is highly specific and precludes the use of stereo image pairs or anaglyph colored pairs.
Thanks for any help, I'm sure I'm in the right place here.
First time poster by the way.
I did try Google first.

Do you mean something like a z-buffer? That isn't technically speaking 3d (just 2 2d images, one with the color, one with the corresponding depth)
I think basically any fractal program uses this internally in order to do the shading and such. I'm not really into all the fractal software however, so I don't know which software allows you access those images.

XenoDream lets you save the depth map in PGM (16bit), BMP (8bit), RG encoded TGA, or PSD (16bit) format. It's always available after rendering, because the depth map is used for deferred shading. In addition, you have the choice of saving the raw object coloring or the image after shading.
