hi there, i just bought a set of these:

but only the "cheap" version without movie functionality cheesy

Cool... I remember having read an article in an electronics magazine that described how to make a ticker with only one row of LED's and an E-motor. But that was 20 years ago ;-) I wonder if this would be easy to make. It's probably just a form of evolution of the One-LEDRow-Ticker...
