Hello,
My twin brother called me a couple of weeks ago, and told me about Mandelbulb. I got here by the Deviantart/Haltenny/Skytopia route, with some others in between I forgot. I've been playing with the program since! I went through Haltenny's tutorials, and found them very helpful to getting started at all in the program.
I'm fascinated by the renders I see here! I'm exploring fractals, starting from some presets, and some from formulas I combine. So far, I haven't found so many (or any?) views I think are outstanding, just interesting.. Maybe I'm picky, or something. How do I tell if it's good enough to post here? I admire what I see here, and hope I can find some as amazing! Anyway, I'm looking forward being part of this forum, even though I'm not so very experienced in protocol, or interaction in a forum. I hope I don't make any bloopers!
Regards,
dringen

Hi!
I'm pretty new to the net myself and have avoided a number of forums in the past, but you can just relax and be yourself here and if you're happy with a piece of your work, post it. I wasn't sure how my first two pictures would be taken by others when I posted them but they have both been given five stars. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks for the welcome, and the encouragement, Bib, and Erisian. I feel more confidant about being here, and posting things.

Hi dringen and welcome! This is one of the most easygoing forums I've ever experienced. I think it may be the first example of an anarchic community that works . There's just occasional moderation going on and you can pretty much post and say anything you want, as long as it is within the common decency standards. As for posting in the galleries: Just try it. You'll be amazed by the reviews. Or not, and then you'll know you have something to work on But I must admit, I still haven't figured out what makes this community appreciate a picture; I've posted stuff that I was sure would be appreciated, which didn't get a single star and stuff that I wasn't sure about which got raving reviews I'll let you know if I find the magic recipe

hello and welcome to the forums i think the voting is depending much on the moods of the users watching them, and if you are in a bunch of rather many new posted pictures, traditionally, a picture on the front page of the gallery gets more views/ratings, but i havent figured it out either, i once wanted to promote a beautiful rendering of fractal scene, actually this image: http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=1267but it never got really the attention it deserved i think some other hints: - be original, a new image that is looking like one seen before with changed view/parameters/colors doesnt get that much attention - be harmonic, use a perfect colors scheme ( whatever this means ) - be dramatic , let the image tell a story - be funny, a good laugh is always welcome!

I think a lot of images don't get rated as they deserve because people only tend to rate if they want to give five stars. I've occasionally given four to some of these and I think I even gave a three to one. Also, the Mandelbulb 3D users seem to get more votes which I think is a shame as 2D fractals can be extremely beautiful. I'll never get bored with exploring Julia sets, for example, and trying to create new images from them. I must admit though, some of those Mandelbulbs and Mandelboxes are incredible.

Hello. Welcome. Don't worry too much about gallery ratings. I tend to dismiss whatever ratings my images get - I am always more interested in seeing if anyone comments That's where you know you touched something in their brain The important part is to enjoy yourself and have fun exploring the artistic side of Math, Geometry, and Fractals.

Ahh, Thank you all,
Sockratease, cKleinhuuis, Madman, Thank you for your encouraging words, and suggestions.
Erisian, I confess I haven't done much rating. not sure what to put, as it feels very subjective to me... about what I like. I know some of the ones I post, I have a fair amount of emotion tied up in them... ( I really like them!) I just hope some other people would too.
Anarchy, huh? well, if it works...
humor.... I do have something I want to post - what happened when I added one more formula to the mix once.... looked like a meltdown, literally!
I'm already experiencing the friendliness, and the helpfulness of people here. I'm glad I joined.
