I randomly stumbled on this video last night - i've always been fascinated by the beautiful Romanesco Broccoli, but i've never seen one with this weird crest on the top! I'd like to see a better pic or close-up of this type. The flange at the top looks a lot like some of the rotated mandelbox images.

You mean to tell me that this whole time we've all been fascinated by broccoli?   Ah well, now I have to invest in a webcam/microscope and go buy some cauliflower.  The render times are gonna be super fast!

In all seriousness though, that's the closest thing to a Mandelbulb that I've seen in the macroscopic world.  alien

This hybrid Romanesco is fascinating.

By the way, has anyone tried to do a Romanesco in Mandelbulb3D? As we know it's possible to make spirals using rotated box that would seem possible. But these spirals appear at very particular points on the cube surface, not homogeneously on the surface. On the other hand, it's not too difficult I think to do a traditionnal cauliflower, probably using a dodecahedron with some rotations.

So does anyone have an idea on what could be the formula mix to apply to a rotated KIFS to get a Romanesco?

Very interesting! Coincidentally,  last month I found romanesco broccolis at my local grocery store. Of course I had to buy one. I ate it too. it's rather good, better than regular broccolis or cauliflowers I found. (I'll put up the two recipes I tried soon).  I took some pictures of it before and found this little anomaly on one of the bulbs that also made think of Mandelbulb 3D. I guess Nature knew fractals long before us, but to realise it knew about rotated mandelboxes... Wow... shocked

Nice! That's the same kinda iterative anomaly that was running wild in the video above!
Cool find .. i hope someone selectively breeds a new variety based on that (or other) fractal mutations  smiley
