Hello guys,

fractals are facinating for me since ive played around with Fractint when i was a boy. After years i am exploring fractals again with a self-made software. Its very exciting for me to play around with formulas, the results are some times facinating. But i knew few about math. Im rather a game programmer. There seem to be some smart guys out here. I would like to gain more experience and share my own work with you.

thx in advance.

Hello and Welcome!

I've made a few games myself, but mostly just flash games and a waste of time.  Some had fractal art for backgrounds, etc., but not actually involving fractals in the gameplay.

I look forward to seeing what you do   afro

That would be an infinitely complex game!  cheesy

Yeah i thought about procedural map generation. I could add some fractal iterations to it smiley

procedural map generation is fractal related but too usual...
Do you have a crazier idea where fractals play an actual big role in gameplay? cheesy

(procedural maps are nice aswell, though)

How about fractal mazes, dungeons and fractal monsters that just keep transforming as you kill them?  evil

In the beginning of Times (1984!) there was a game called "Rescue on Fractalus!":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rescue_on_Fractalus!
The terrain was made of fractals..

But if you want fractal mazes, visit project Daedalus (download it from sourceforge):
http://www.astrolog.org/labyrnth/daedalus.htm
it supports several types of fractal mazes (nested and recursive), that very few can solve
(only the most powerful fractal minds can find a way throught those maniacal fractal mazes  smiley).

Oh..if you don't believe me, check that fractal maze:
http://www.astrolog.org/labyrnth/maze/fractal.gif
the entrace is on the upper left side (a missing wall section), and the exit is on the lower right (another missing section)
Only a fractalist could perceive the self-similarity in there.. smiley

Thank you guys for the intresting impressions. Currently im not really sure about the concept how the map will be made. Probably this will be a mix of procedural terrain generation and human made buildings with a built-in editor. I spent a lot time to finish the rendering and user interface engine and now i am finishing a sub-project called yFractalExplorer, then i will continue to making the game stuff.
Check out the experimental version of my fractal explorer if you are intrested: http://yv3.bplaced.net/files/yFractalExplorer.exe. Sorry, joystick support is not implemented yet but it will be smiley Ill keep you updated.

Greetings, and Welcome to this particular Forum !!!    smiley

One tends to learn a lot more about fractals when they do their own programming.  I found it interesting in the beginning to do such coding, but since I am a professional programmer, I soon got tired of doing for both work and pleasure.  Now it is almost a full time job just keeping up with the 600+ fractal related applications that are available.  Not to mention the thousands of formulas.    evil
