Real (but alien) tree/plant life on Earth

These images are a spectacular sight, and the fact that they're fractal is simply the icing on the cake!

Apparently, an island called Socotra harbours the most strange and most rare kinds of nature anywhere on Earth. It really looks alien, and if I didn't know any better, I'd say it was man-made. But it isn't:

Ahhh, yes...  these particular images have been floating around the Internet for the past few years now.  I thought most everybody was already aware of them.  The problem with the above web site, is that they are only showing a portion of the full set (there should be 24 images).

Socotra one of the four islands in the Indian Ocean, and part of the Republic of Yemen.
