I saw something like this in real life several years ago... The "coloring algorithm" could be based on the "basins" of the cracks and the curvature.

I had a try and did not get what I am looking for so far. I tried to plug the DLA formula in the coloring slot of a pixel fractal formula in a trapshape block for trap shape or trap texture parameters of the main MMF orbit trap gradient wrapper, but it seems that the "pixel-based" nature of DLA is a too strong constraint to really combine it with other shapes and textures.
The best I could do so far is an image with traditional trap shapes, and the DLA as a 2D texture to color the trap shapes. But I would like to have 3D slope+lighting texture "inside" the DLA cracks : does that sound feasible?

I need to write a more general version for that sort of use. That is possible the coolest active fractal display I have ever seen. Others like the animated ones aren't as raw and colour mixed as this.
