Someone was doing a live web cast, using a camera, a computer, and the application running live at the time.  They decided to see what happens when one points the camera at the monitor during the live web cast:

I saw some indication that this was originally from:  http://www.4playerpodcast.com/

And I found another version of the same on YouTube:

I've done similar things in the past, where I plug a digital camera into my TV for a live feed, and then move the camera around. It's like twisting around inside a tunnel...

I'm interested in the pulsing "tones" that it started producing. I suppose these were the only attractor under iteration of the feedback loop. If their network speeds were varying widely, I wonder if they could have observed some types of hysteresis...  Yes !!

Someday, man will understand primary theory; how every aspect of our universe has come about. Then we will describe all of physics, build a complete understanding of genetic engineering, catalog all planets, and find intelligent life. And then we'll just puzzle over fractals for eternity.

in fact you can generate julia shapes with moving the camera around and recording what you are outputting wink

fractal video feedback is awesome cheesy
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/uzzktnjKkVg&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/uzzktnjKkVg&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1</a>

In your case up there, it was audio feedback aswell... That's more rare. I guess, it's because that gets a mess quickly and doesn't sound as pleasing as video feedback looks.

There are plenty of examples of video feedback on Youtube otherwise. I discovered some interesting effects myself, using various processing features of the webcam i have, but i haven't gotten around to putting any of it up yet. Maybe you'll see something soon.

You only get a fractal with two or more screens. Otherwise, you merely have a recursive image with a single pathological point.

Specifically, each screen corresponds to a projective transformation (not necessarily affine), and the result is a system similar to Barnsley's IFS fractals. You could, for example, create a fern with four screens strategically positioned.

Finally uploaded some examples i made myself, using the effects of the webcam software that came with it.
