Hi there !
After several months I decided to register here, later is better than never.
I'm not really a good programmer (lack of time AND hardware power), however I explore and render the universe of fractals since a very long time. My very first encounter was the earliest version of Fractint, with b&w images and about ten minutes to render the basic Mandelbrot set and print it with an awful printer noise onto pierced low-quality paper.
I actually use several engines to explore fractals (visions of chaos, chaoscope, ultrafractal, xenodream, mojoworld, Apophysis and mandelbulb 3D at last), and I started a deviant art gallery but only with latest works.
Hope I can learn more here, I'm also afraid I'm becoming a Mandelbox nerd... ouch !

Most people that were exposed to fractals from 1988 into the first few years of this century probably used FractInt at some time. And there are many good programs for generating fractals (as you have already listed), each with their own unique capabilities. There is always something new to learn!!  |

Most people that were exposed to fractals from 1988 into the first few years of this century probably used FractInt at some time. I remember something (a little) older that runs on amiga benchmark and could generate 3D landscapes using a simple plasma formula and oly one texture map (atlas gradient I suppose, with snow on highest "mountains") and variable water level, with no reflects maybe to avoid roasting hardware or taking a monthe to render something decent  . Fractint still works with a dosbox but there's no stability guarantee. I Remember how tricky it was to set good values to formulas parameters to avoid blue screen or floating number error, and dad is still thinking something fractal happened to my brain... Damm am I so old ?! I look forward to seeing some of your imagery Stay tuned. |

FractInt still works with a dosbox but there's no stability guarantee.
I Remember how tricky it was to set good values to formulas parameters
to avoid blue screen or floating number error.... Not sure which version/release level you were running to get those problems, but I and several others I know of have been using it for many years without such errors. In fact, I use it every day that Jim Muth posts one of his Fractal Of The Day emails to the FractInt discussion list. Damm am I so old ?! I would say anybody in their mid-30's age wise (or younger) is not really that old. You have a few more decades to go before you really start to begin to be old. |

I'm 13. I feel too young: everyone else my age want cutting edge, man-made graphics for things like Halo. Also, I can't drive, vote, etc., another reason why I feel to young... but that's just, well: wait - wasn't there an "Off Topic" emoticon? Now I'm beginning to realize how horribly hypocritical that last question was. I really have to stop... but I can't... It's too much fun!!! Wheeee!!!! |
