A perturbed Mandel quaternion

In a paper by Hart, Kaufman and Sandin they presented a rotation in the complex plane only which creates an interesting perturbation of a quaternion. In my UF raytrace implemenation of quaternions I call it the Hart angle. The next image is for a Mandel quaternion which has a Hart rotation of -95 degrees. This gives a quaternion that no longer has the lathed shape and now shows some external fractal detail.

Looks like the fractal detail is all in one plane. Do any of the dendrites break out of this plane?

Looking at this image and its whipped cream areas, I bet some dendrites do exist outside out of the main plane, but these are probably perpendicular to the main plane with not much variety.
