You must have been around 10 to 12 years old at that time of your life.
What's wrong with that? Like Jimmie, I have discovered fractals when I was a young teenager on the Amiga 500 (which I used mostly to do music as I had a sampler and the first virtual 8-track trackers) and because my father offered me "The beauty of fractals" I think for my 12th or 13th birthday.
Like Jimmie I discovered Ultrafractal 2 (back in 1999-2000) and had so much fun with it. My interest into fractal software decreased during many years until I started again last year. I remember when I launched UF 2 last year (I had not yet dowloaded UF 5) that the splashscreen could read something like "You have been using this evaluation version for 3600 days, you must now purchase it or..."

And in 2009 I discovered that UF had become (one of) the standard to design fractals. So I thought that it well deserved it because back in 1999-2000 I had found that this software was so userfriendly and powerful that I was quickly hooked. I registered here, and after a few months experimenting, I realized it was too stupid to spend countless hours on UF to upload videos on Youtube marked with "evaluation version" so I bought the licence. BTW, does anybody have an idea of how many UF licences were sold in the world?
