png works fine in windows.  What made you think it wouldn't?

Looks fine on this windows system.

Jesus at least put a Mandelbrot in the background! You know, since it's about fractals.

Dear Flex, I don't like the icon (sorry Drumhead Dad, nice nick btw), but someone showing an icon he did in his mac doesn't bother me to the point of having to complain about the lack of a mandelbrot on it (oh what an original idea cheesy)

That was Pablito Andrioli talking. Now Kali says: C'mon!!! put something complicated in that background, I'm sick of minimalism, fractals just aren't that way!!! haha

Just kidding, do what you want buddy... doing what you want it's always more important than doing what they want, if there is no harm to others involved.

First time I notice the forums should have an icon. It's nowhere to be seen but in the post in this topic. It would be nice to have that icon visible in the tabs of my browser, for easier access when you have lots of tabs open.

Do you mean this:

It shows from here, and always has.

Could this be a mobile, or apple specific, thing?  I avoid both so would not know.

I wasn't sure what was meant by icon in this context, so just assumed it was a misuse of the word.  Now I am not sure...

the favicons used in the tabs are historic very small images like 32x32 icon files, the things the people are talking about is the newly introduced hi-res icons that are used by various mobile devices and ios systems, the one i posted is my personal and entered variant for the big size icons

I just loves my ignorance of the newest tech!   embarrass

I still carry a laptop in my briefcase for mobile use.  One day I'll catch up.

Thanks for clarifying and sorry if my lack of knowledge derailed the thread   secret; zipped mouth

This works for me:

Code:
<link href="//abs.twimg.com/favicons/favicon.ico" rel="shortcut icon" type="image/x-icon">

This does not work:

Code:
<link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="/icon72x72.jpg"/>
<link rel="apple-touch-icon" sizes="72x72" href="/icon72x72.jpg"/>
<link rel="apple-touch-icon" sizes="114x114" href="/icon72x72.jpg"/>

Of course it will only work on Apple devices, as they really screw things up regarding to compatibility, collaboration and being truly social. They succeed in this even better than M$.

Developers and designers should really use a standard, if one is applicable and available (for free, otherwise just boycott it).
