Im not sure if this is related to math or fractals at all but here's a little dice-game I want to share and look if there are people who can find the right answer: It has three ''rules'': -The scores around the hole. -The teacher never lies. -Never trust the dices. So now is the question, how many points are this: If you know it please post your answer(s).

Judging by the number of answers that have been posted compared to the number of views the post has had, I guess it's pretty difficult.
I'm not even sure where to begin :-)

To anyone viewing my posts and finding missing/broken links to a website called www.needanother.co.uk, I still own the domain but recently cancelled my server (saving £30/month) so even though the domain address exists, it points nowhere. I hope to one day sort something out but for now - sorry!

8 or 12, depending on the belief in imaginary holes?

8 is right. What about those imaginary holes? 8+0i or 0+8i ? Or something else?

It's best to never even try to compare such things. There are many web robots that view every thread. Google has legions of them, Yahoo has an army, and even microsoft has it's share. The views are not all by members, and of the not member views, many are not even human. I almost wish that stat was not displayed. It gets misused often, sometimes leading members to delete their posts and threads out of misguided anger at lots of views and no replies.

You could probably use the word "whole" instead of "hole" in the rules, and it would still work.

That's a good one. But would it be possible to use complex numbers in games like this?

I haven't picked up a pair of dice since I was about ten years old. I don't really understand the three rules. And I don't even begin to understand the answer! I thought the answer might be 12.9 - reading the dice as 3 X 4 . 3 (I TOLD you I didn't understand the rules! )

Aha. I see it now. I still don't understand the rules, though.

The other rules are just to make it more ineresting, so people can get confused by reading them.

I see it, I think. So the answer is eight. The 'five' dice is four points and the threes are two each. They are the only die faces that score.
Am I correct?

Seems like it could be 24 if you consider all of the holes rather than just the center one (neighbors for a 3 x 3 grid centered about some particular hole)
