Name: Planet Julia II
Date: February 16, 2009
Fractal: Matchmaker Julia set
Location: a = 0.53256 + 0.31163i; b = 0.174419 - 0.180231i
Depth: Whole Riemann sphere
Min Iterations: 32
Max Iterations: 99886
Layers: 2
Anti-aliasing: 3x3, threshold 0, depth 2
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Calculation time: 4 hours (2GHz dual-core Athlon XP)
Notes:

A Matchmaker Julia set with the full Riemann sphere visualized in a Mollweide projection. There is an attractor of period 5, but the dynamics teeter on the edge of admitting a second, much higher period attractor, so the high iteration areas form a fuzzy disconnected quadratic Julia form. The two layers here color the low and high iteration areas separately.
