I like what you are able to produce from the Fractal Science Kit.      smiley

What was the rendering time on this image, and with what type of processor??

Thanks Paul. This image took 9.81 minutes on my 1.8 GHz Pentium 4 with 1 GB RAM. I need a new machine :-). It is 1,050 x 700 pixels, with 3x3 oversampling for a total of 3,150 x 2,100 sampled points. Lanczos anti-aliasing is applied using a 9x9 kernel. If I turn off oversampling/anti-aliasing and turn on 4x4 solid guessing, it takes 1.05 minutes but of course the image quality is far less.

Ross

An update:

I upgraded my machine to a 2.67 GHz Intel i7-920 CPU with 6 GB RAM running Windows Vista SP2! Here are the new statistics.

1,050 x 700 pixels, with 3x3 oversampling for a total of 3,150 x 2,100 sampled points: 2.44 minutes
1,050 x 700 pixels, with 2x2 oversampling for a total of 2,100 x 1,400 sampled points: 1.10 minutes
1,050 x 700 pixels, with no oversampling and 4x4 solid guessing on: 16 seconds

I really like this, and the textured look.

What would make it look super stunning, is shadowey areas under each 'curl' so as clearly imply a layered effect.
