Hello to all,

Trying to create the scene with Povray of the stained glass window and light coming in to create colour reflections on the walls and floor, obviously from the little image it didn't go well.

The trouble is to create the stained glass window.

I tried in the GIMP by creating a fractal image with Xaos and then used the mosaic filter on it to get this;

I think it is nice effect, but not so what I had in mind.

It looks like a mosaic with  hexagons not so much stained glass window, and the colours are dark.
I'd like lots of different colours.

If I make the hexagons larger the image becomes much distorted.

Any suggestions, about the technique or some software to create the stained glass window effect from a fractal image?

There was a plug-in available (I used a long time ago), I believe it was called Craquelure.  And a free downloaded was available from some site that offered such things.  But I believe it did something like what you want.  Another was Flaming Pear's BladePro plug-in.

Other places you might try for information:

Hi - I believe Ultra Fractal will work under Wine on Linux - in which case try this UPR:

Code:
Fractal2 {
fractal:
  title="Fractal2" width=640 height=480 layers=1
  credits="David Makin;5/15/2009"
layer:
  caption="Background" opacity=100 method=multipass
mapping:
  center=0/0 magn=1 transforms=1
transform:
  filename="dmj.uxf" entry="dmj-Mosaic" p_mostiles=500 p_moscenter=0/0
  p_centermove=yes p_mosscale=5.0 p_tilescale=0.0 p_tileseams=0.01
  p_usesolid="seams, no gaps" p_mosforce=0.0 p_mosangle=0.0
  p_seed1=51853571 p_seed2=8072177 p_seed3=654187327
formula:
  maxiter=100 percheck=off filename="Standard.ufm" entry="Julia"
  p_seed=0.1/0.74375 p_power=2/0 p_bailout=128
inside:
  transfer=none
outside:
  transfer=linear filename="Standard.ucl" entry="Smooth" p_power=2/0
  p_bailout=128.0
gradient:
  smooth=yes rotation=1 index=0 color=6555392 index=64 color=13331232
  index=168 color=16777197 index=257 color=43775 index=343 color=512
opacity:
  smooth=no index=0 opacity=255
}

The above shows how to add stained glass "rims" to any fractal generated with UF using a transform (UXF) - there are other transforms that do similar things.

Note that in UF 5 you can use the "pixel" formula as the main formula, use the basic image import class as the colouring and use the transform (uxf) as used in the above UPR enabling you to add a stained glass effect to any image - note that there are also transforms (UXFs) for adding a "frosted" effect and there are also other mosaic/tiling transforms - I just used the first one I found.
