Hello, I've enjoyed learning from this site recently and wanted to register to say hello. I'm very excited to learn more about fractals from such a great community! I've been interested in fractals a long time and am now trying to understand more of the math behind them. I've recently been working on a little programming and see what I could create. I'm also interested in using music or audio signals to drive changes in the properties. I've created a personal site blazinglace.net to show off some of my own work and to be a helpful reference for someone just getting started. I know that there's a lot of new programs I haven't covered, so far I've just added what I know and will keep learning. I put a link back to this site and plan on adding a bit more about here soon. Both Mandelbulbs and fractal flam3's were a couple of concepts that were new to me and reignited my interest. I've tried to make a flam3 keyframe animator Flam3thrower in Ruby that is easy to change parameters to quickly create a batch of flam3 files that can then be rendered and then animated. I know that this program still needs some work and hope to fix some of the bugs and make it pretty, but it should still be fun to try out and I've written a short guide. I look forward to collaborating with you all in the future! grin

Hi and welcome to ff, the best place for general fractal background math IMO is here:

http://classes.yale.edu/fractals/

And the best place for code for anyone just starting is actually the Fractint documentation wink
If beyond that and wanting to go straight to 3D then the best option is looking for relevant info here at fractalforums wink

For general background maths I use wolfram:

http://mathworld.wolfram.com/

Though somewhat behind with respect to actual fractals it does have just about all the background math you could ever need - probably including some you didn't even know existed even if you're a University tutor wink

For specific information relevant to L-systems and fractal plants a good place to start is here:

http://algorithmicbotany.org/papers/

Enjoy !

Thank you very much for the recommendations Dave! I'd just started using Wolfram more last week and the Yale and algorithmicbotany site look like they'll keep me busy for a while. Thanks again for the great tips!
