Auto-log in FractInt

Does anyone know the details of how the "auto-log" coloring works in FractInt? I'm looking for specific details on the exact mathematical operations that are performed, especially how the high and low ranges for the count-to-color mapping are determined.

I'm trying to avoid reverse-engineering it from the source code....
