Hello from Hameln!

I came across Mandelbulb yesterday and I am very fond of fractals (even though I do not really understand the mathematics behind it).
I rendered my first fractal with "appleman" on my C64 in the late 1980's (it needed about 12 hours). I am a hobby-musician (techno
and trance) and I will publish some of my tracks within the next 12 months. As my budget is ... zero ... (married, two children - you see?)
I have to do the cover-Art on my own. And what is more suitable to this kind of music than a nice 3D-fractal Artwork?

What I ask myself and you: Is the use of the fractals generated with Mandelbulb free and if so, may I also use the delivered formula "presets" for (hopefully successful) commercial purposes? I would certainly put an "artwork done with Mandelbulb3d" into the booklet cheesy

Best Regards

Shanake

Hello and welcome to FractalForums   afro

Generally speaking, you can only use your own parameters for commercial use.  For permission to use example parameters, ask Jesse  (he wrote Mandelbulb3D and is an active member here).

It's always best to use the examples as inspiration and a learning tool.  Using them directly, even with permission, really makes a production look bad to anyone who spots it.

Hope that helps, and enjoy the site!

I just played around a little bit, added some Formula here, changed some parameters there and - tadaaa - I love it.
The examples are so special, as there are sometimes several objects and light-sources combined. There is much to
learn. But I agree: Using the hard work of others looks crappy. So I will take the hard and stony way which will give
me more satisfaction in the end.

I just asked, because of the immense amount of formula (so frightening). But after some trial-and-error-play I figured
out the basic basics.

Thanks

hello and welcome to the forums,

there are some tutorials regarding mandelbulber, some formulas are just slight transformations e.g. multiply, or spherefold, that can add similar touch to many formulas, it isnt that intuitive, but it can be used in an intuitive way wink have fun, and be sure to check out the annual compo!
