Hi all and greetings from sunny Queensland (Australia), it's nice to be here  evil and hopefully I'll find time to 'hang out' with some of you  tease

I have been into fractals since about 1995 (the ancient DOS fractint days!) but these days I use (mostly) Xenodream, Apophysis, Ultrafractal and Chaospro. I live for the day that 3d fractals are a reality (yeah I'm a 3d kindof guy).

I also (occasionally) play around with fractal music...

Sadly since my uni days I don't get nearly enough time to play with fractals... but I have made plenty and will share some when I get a chance to...

Apart from fractals I'm interested in pretty much everything, cacti, succulents, space and guitar being among the highest ranking of those interests. Oh and I have a pet cat and a pet hare (bit unusual I know!)

Anyhow, that's me, I hope to be a useful member of this little society!

Ciao,

Beau

Hi from North Wales and welcome to the forums. As for 3D fractals - have you tried playing with mmf4.ufm-3D IFS (the default is the Menger Sponge) - note that normally you should colour using "inside" colourings. Here are examples of what you can do with the formula:

http://MakinMagic.deviantart.com/art/Buddhist-Temple-89575614
http://MakinMagic.deviantart.com/art/Greenacres-Condo-90429383
http://MakinMagic.deviantart.com/art/Inside-the-Sierpinski-Temple-2-79825788

If you mean you'd like to see full 3D realisations of fractals (i.e. solid real objects) then there is a lady on the web somewhere who has been producing such though I don't have the link handy.

"mmf4.ufm-3D IFS (the default is the Menger Sponge) "

where do i find this in uf5 ?

ok, i found it, but when i choose the formula it renders a black cube sad
and if switching debug mode on, the window tells me that array index is out of bounds sad

what should it do ?

Hi, to start with change UF's "outside" colouring to "none" and the "inside" colouring to mmf.ucl-mmf 3d colouring and set the UF gradient so index 0 is black and index 399 is white.

For more advanced use of the formula use mmf4.ucl-3d colouring direct as the colouring.

Note that there are hints on the parameters for "3D IFS".

NB. When I say set the "outside" colouring to "none" I mean select Standard.ucl-None as the colouring method and change the "Transfer Function" to None.

You probably got this problem through switching to the transformations viewing option without changing the pixel height and pixel width for the transformation viewing from the defaults of 1 - to view transformations you need to set the pixel height and width values to either the pixel height and width of the fractal window, or, if you wish to preview the transformations when exploring parameter values, to the height and width of your preview window.

ah, i see, cool method, only the parameters are overwhelming .. smiley
wouldnt it be cool if uf programmers could create user interfaces ?
e.g. a rendering pane...  cheesy

I'm planning a new general purpose 3D raytracer for fractals using plug-ins for the various fractal types (3D IFS, quaternions, fBm landscapes etc) - the main formula basically just being the 3D set up and renderer, the raytracing done by the plug-in/s. With that I'm planning allowing the possibility of splitting the render window into panes - a bit like the views available in 3D Studio Max/Lightwave etc.
