I thing the story of the images below is quite interesting despite thay are of poor quality, you will understand why if I say that I did these in 2001.
At the time I only had a remote idea of fractals being somewhat mathematical.
But I heard of a man who did some strange sculptures made of reflective metallic balls, him claimed can find some images in the reflections.
In short, I recreated the idea in my 3D program.
Its a complex geometric construct, I did a pyramid made of reflective balls, then I nested 7 pyramids one inside the other and placed a cámera, I was then ready to explore the inside of the geometric construct of reflections, these are the images shown here.
I tried some animations by moving spheres, lights, etc, but these taken enormous amounts of time and I forget the idea.
I too tried different basic polyhedra, and found some interesting things, but this is another story.

I have found the old archives and I have done some bigger renders.

Nice renders.  These are known as wada basins...

Hi Jason, I had no idea of this all, very interesting links, the second one shows the exact geometric construct of pyramids.

Hi Jason, I had no idea of this all, very interesting links, the second one shows the exact geometric construct of pyramids.

I haven't visited these in a while and there are some more nice examples out there like this movie

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/BoJMgOJId-0&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/BoJMgOJId-0&rel=1&fs=1&hd=1</a>

from http://freymanart.com/Wada/index.htm.

You have encouraged me to revisit my raytracing code and have another play with refelctive spheres (and remind myself even with a grunty machine how slow it is to handle multiple reflections).

There are an infinite ways to arrange spheres and then peer inside their reflections.  The simple pyramid arrangement is what got me into these in the first place.  The old "complexity emergence from simplicity" idea.  It would be good to catalog a series of sphere coordinates and examples of what they lead to.

Well, the seven nested double pyramid construct leads to humanoid forms, more exactly, a male face can be found in top of the innermost cluster, and a female face in the bottom,  it was astounding to find these things.
I had a slow computer at the time, and as you say, I was discouraged to search, now I have a better computer but have no time to explore other basic Geometry , but I´m sure it would be very rewarding.
