I have just downloaded Mandelbulb3Dv1.7.6.0, but unfortunately I am having some very weird problems. Almost nothing works correctly it seems. So I have some questions.

But first - what do you need to know about my system and the response of the tools in this applications that may be specific to my op system?

I can't seem to locate the online documentation and there isn't a way to see the version/about data with the app in the window.

I am running an HP m9452p - duo processor - quad core with 8gb mem. I have recently installed a nvidia GeForce GT440 - 1024mb DDR3. I'm running in Windows Home premium 7-64.

Some of the issues I have are manual zoom and pan, changes in formula that show no response in either of the work space windows, etc. Color map changes and textures don't seem to respond. When I use the hand panner icon in the lower left of the main work space window, the instant I touch inside the image window it zooms up so close and out of control, I can't tell where I am in the window and have to resort to the undo tool just to get back to overall view. Is this normal?

Formula changes don't seem to do anything to affect the image even when rendered.

There also seems to be conflicts between the 3D nav and main window zoom and pan controls.

Could all this be due to the new nvidia graphics board?

All other apps seem to run fine.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
J

Hi and Welcome to FF!

Everything is normal, don't worry, you'll get used to M3D, it's a bit weird at the beginning cheesy:D

OK let's try to address your questions. I think it's just a matter of learning how it works.

There is no online documentation other than this forum! There is a readme file (OK, not very interesting) and some tutorials you can find on Google (they are mainly on Deviantart)

The version number is in the Internal tab on the right side of the main window.

The GeForce has probably nothing to do with your problems. M3D runs entirely on the CPU.

To navigate in the fractal, my advice is to use the 3D navigator, not the controls of the main window. Forget about trying to reconciliate and understand the numbers on the top right corner of the main window. Use your intuition in the 3D navigator rather. Forget about the commands at the lower left corner of the main window. Concentrate on the 3D navigator. Do not click on the main image, it will zoom  strangely, that's not really what you want to do.

Color maps should work, please be more specific and provide steps to replicate. Textures: I don't know what you mean, there no texture feature per say in M3D.

Formula changes have no effect: please be specific, give examples and steps to replicate.

Good luck and have fun, and again, don't worry, the program works great, you just have to learn it smiley

Thanx

I was able to find some good YouTube tutorials that have helped somewhat.

Right! There's no "texture" settings. Something left over from my days with 3D Studio Max.

Peace,
J
