I need to make a big print from one fractal: 60x90 cm.
Can somebody help me with some tips regarding a very big print? I'll set the quality higher than 4000, but I don't know what size my file should be rendered in order to have a perfect print.
Thanks!

one centimeter is: 0.393700787 inch
so, 60*0.393700787=23.6220472 inch and 90* " = 35.4330708 inch
regarding a printing resolution of 300 dipi your image should have a LOSLESS compression ( png ) and in pixels it should be 7086.61416 horizontal and 10629.9212 in vertikal, rounding it up i would say the pic should have at least dimension of 7087x10630 pixels ...
the file size is nothing of interest here, roughly it should lay around 20 to 35 megabytes... in an uncompressed format...
regards

Thanks! I was afraid that I must go for that size. I was rendering for something like 5300 px and the rendering process was about to take like 2,5 hours. Now, rendering for 10630x7087, I need lots of ram: 4594 and Apophysis shows me it has available only 2727 mb.
I'm using apophysis on a mac with 16 gb ram and the Windows Xp runs on a vmware fusion. I increased the ram memory for vmware to 6000 mb, but apophysis keeps the same memory limit.
Any tips?

be aware, that most print services can only print in 150 dpi (full cmyk color point) in sizes above 40 or 50 cm. so in this case half the resolution should be enough.

I know, for a poster like that should work.
Still, is there any way I can increase the available physical memory?

I tried with a smaller file size and got the next error:
--- Rendering "Apophysis-070209-256.png" --- Size: 7087x4722 Quality: 4000 Oversample: 2, Filter: 0.4 Buffer depth: 32-bit integer *** WARNING *** Using PNG format with extreme high-resolution images is not recommended! To avoid slowdown (and possible memory problems) use BMP file format instead. 12:53:47 : Allocating 2.050.47 Mb of memory ERROR: Not enough memory for this render! 12:53:49 : Rendering terminated!
Any tips?
The Apophysis says: Available physical memory: 2730 After I get this error message and close it, it has only 1137 mb.
That can't be normal.

oh, apophysis, you know, to hit the pixels in a manner that leads to an equally high quality, you need to calculate in a week or so, to get reasonable quality, you know those flame fractal images get better and better the longer you let them calculate ? it isnt comparable to escape time fractals, that "only" need some oversampling, those apophysis/flame fractals need other approaches to get the highest quality, some people here on the forums are "experts" at this, e.g. ross hilbert, or lycium, as far as i know ross is using fractal science kit on macintosh, and lycium has created a robust flame renderer ....
