There were another problem that occured with VS2013 - the ldbl64.dll was crashing.
Terrible, you couldn't go beyon e600 (unless you manually choose the much slower floatexp datatype)
That is corrected now in version 2.7.7, by selecting VS2010 as "Platform toolset", which however feels like a bad thing to do.

I have also updated the Key Frame Movie Maker program, now version 1.27.
Unfortunately not much of an update, just the slope encoding.

But, I am still programming and testing in VS6.0 (1998). Considering the number of post on compability issues in Windows 8.1 on programming forums, I am not alone... I just re-compile it with 64-bit settings in these novelties smiley

nice!
thx for the update..

but in order to use the new movie maker features, I definitely need some tips, what they do, how they work..

what is the start cycle value?

oh, and what does the merge-frame-count funtion do?

Yes, I should update the "Manual" on the web-page.

Start cycle value can be used get a nice start color when using infinite wave coloring. Since all waves starts at zero, the out-zoomed view always have the same color around the mandebrot set.
The start cycle value can also be set to synchronize a zoom in movie with color cycling with with a movie with side-scrolling. The status bar shows the cycle value as C: ###.###

Merge frame count:
The movie pastes key frames on top of each other and stretch them for zooming effect.
Let's say you rendered the key frames in the same resolution as the resulting movie.
At start, the view will be filled with 1x1 antialias, i.e. no antialias.
Second image will be squeeed into half width and fill 1/4 of the center with 2x2 antialias.
Third image with 1/4 widht fill 1/16 with 4x4 antialias.
Etc up to the merge frame count number

Since only 2 2D are being developed right now...
Maybe test this:

Maybe this would work nicely in aplication. Maybe not;)

I implemented your routines in SFTC (not published yet) but I'm probably not using them as intended wink the two colours passed in for blending are 1. the pixel's own colour and 2. the average of the pixels left, right, above and below. The effect is subtle, It (sort of) gives the appearance of over sample without rendering a larger image.

I blend the pixels with it's own color and black or white only (depending on slope).
Not with any other pixel's color.

I meant @Alef re:http://www.fractalforums.com/new-theories-and-research/colours-gradients-and-their-interpolation/msg79162/#new
oops?
but thanks for the inside info wink I have added the blend functions presented by Alef and convolution matrix to GL post processing for some interesting effects but nothing to the extent of slope gradient mapping... yet smiley

hey kalle, another small wish, that might be solved easily:
when using bailout=2 and inverse smooth colour transitions in combination with slopes the results are incredibly 3dimensional.

How cool would this look as movie version?!
Any chance to see bailout=2 added to the movie maker?

edit: I'm not sure - maybe it already is in, as soon as I render the sequence with bailout=2?
And perhaps the effect isn't as obvious because I did a little post work in the static picture, adjusting contrast, brightness and saturation..
I should have waited until the movie is finished rendering to at least the position of the static picture.
Might take a day or 2.. wink
