I learned how to make a panoramic sky so I could project it as a background sphere, but when I apply it it loses clarity
get all blurry and big looking. How can I get it to look clear with a nice resolution? Im guessing its getting stretched out.

? is this just a problem that can't be fixed? Ive seen some videos that had spectacular backgrounds so, Im just wondering if that was done with after effects or something.

Can you post the parameters and attach a small size example of your background to your post?

Dont know if this helps.
Thanks.

Hmm, seem to me, your background is not distorted at all. You've got that technique pretty well under control (better than me grin). But if your trying to span a 2k X 1k picture over a sphere and only look at a very small part of that sphere at a 1280 X 768 resolution, you will never get a detailed background. You may want to think about a background file size of 20k X 10k (or if that's not achievable, a resolution as high as possible) and rerender. Furthermore, your parameters show that you have added some fog in the lighting tab. If you want a crisp background, you should reduce that to 0.

i do a lot of map work ( make planet and moon maps of the solar system) and mapping to a sphere is different than to a cylinder
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Map_projection#Cylindrical
the poles are stretched
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_map_projections
this is the MOST common in 3d rendering ( besides using a CubeMap)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equirectangular_projection

for a sphere a "Simple Cylindrical " map projection is needed

OR
use a "cube map" ( AKA "sky box")
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cube_mapping

most of the time there is no real good way to remap a photo ( like a panorama ) to a SPHERE .To a cylinder -- YES but a sphere has different geometry .

there are some programs like
"Mathews Map Projection"( MMPS)
http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~arcus/mmps/

or
likely the best way is to use "The Gimp" and use the "to polar" distort then using the HEAL tool to "FIX" it at the poles.
