I am working on a program for rendering mandelbrot, julia, and lambda sets.

The main feature of the program lies in the way the colors are selected and applied to the image.
I am using a color table that can be edited graphically, with immediate effects on the image.

So far though, all the data is based on escape time (iteration counts). I would like to keep this
for the larger, low iteration count areas, and possibly use some other type of rendering for the
more detailed areas. It looks like the iteration count could be used to differentiate between two
different rendering methods.

Is there a rendering function that would lend itself to this? I am mainly trying to smooth, filter,
or anti-alias the highly detailed areas.

The attached images are all escape time and shows the sharp boundaries that can be found.
The images are from the lambda set with an escape radius of 1.0.
