Hello, everybody:

I’m from Basque Country, Spain, and I’ve been a Mandelbrot Set and fractals fan for many years.

When I programmed and saw images of the Mandelbrot Set for the first time, I thought (like many others) that they looked like 2D photos of 3D landscapes formed by three-dimensional shapes around the set. Several weeks ago I came back to that question trying to figure out how to show that imagined third dimension on a 3D TV. And I did it.

I think that this is the best place to show my results and to know the experts’ opinion about my work. I guess I will post some images in the Fractal Art section of the forum (that’s the right way, isn’t it?), but you can see a complete gallery on Flickr:

[You have to download the images in original resolution (1920x1080) and view them on a 3D TV in Side by Side mode]

In 2D, they look like ordinary views of the Mandelbrot Set. In 3D, I have not seen anything like these. I hope you like them.

Welcome!

Very interesting, I like the effect!
I was wondering if it might be possible to somehow put the 'usual' mandelbrot-set into the 3rd dimension (not to be confused with the mandelbulb) and there you come and just do it..
cool! good job..
would you mind sharing how you did that?

(btw, you don't need to put it on a 3d tv but can look at them on a normal monitor by crossing your eyes.. smiley

Beautiful images, clean and with good stereo, compared to heavy average imaging we are used to, thats some fresh air.
Now you know there are more spanish people here.

Thank you, Chillheimer and stereoman.

It is the original Mandelbrot Set without any changes but the addition of the third dimension. Seahorses, spirals and other shapes that look like they disappear in the distance, in 3D they "really" disappear in the distance.

Every pixel's depth and color is calculated in a C program without any kind of post processing. It isn’t a special effect but the calculation of left and right eyes’ points of view supposing that the third dimension exists in the way I imagine. I want to make a 3D video and to explore this “3D Mandelbrot Set” before revealing my method.

Crossing eyes you see deformed images and I guess you lose a lot of detail. I think that they worth to be viewed on a 3D TV.

PD. Sorry for my English.
