After countless efforts of trying to upload a personal picture, I finally succeeded, so it's time for my first post ;-) Now I only hope the picture looks as it was intended...

My first encounter with fractals was somewhere in the early 90's when I bought my first PC and somebody gave my a copy of Fractint. I soon lost interest because it took ages to render and patience never was one of my virtues. I rediscovered fractals a couple of years back, first with Chaospro and then to Apophysis3D, Ultrafractal and Incendia and finally, when discovering this website and the mandelbulb to Mandelbulber, David's UF plugin and Mandelbulb 3D.

Although I have a technical background (and still work in a highly technological environment), I must admit that I'm more interested in the beautiful pictures then in the math behind it, although one of the posts here finally made me understand the basics of the mandelbrot set. It kind of reminded me of the familiar "Guide to Cricket for Foreigners" with the difference that I now understand when a pixel is "out" or "in", but still do not understand cricket ;-)

I'll probably be spamming this website with a couple of my creations if I find out how to post to galleries and maybe put in my tuppence worth in the more theoretical discussions, but I expect you'll be better off disregarding the latter and, come to think of it, maybe also the former!

Well, enough chitchat, time to do some Mandelbulb 3D (which happens to be my favourite lately, so thank you, Jesse!) and hopefully talk some more to you all later.

Regards,

Madman

the gallery offers personal gallery section, but it features around 6000 images right now, feel free to show us your work, an annual fractal art contest takes place every years springtime

Hello and Welcome.

There's a trait we both share!

I tried programming a fractal generator for flash, but quickly gave up because I was enjoying making pretty pictures too much!  I look forward to seeing your stuff.

...Somehow I can´t reply to messages

That's odd!  The PMS works fine from here  (I assume you mean Private Messages because you replied to threads).

Do you have any sort of script blocking software enabled?  Things like NoScript will disable Private Messages and many other features of this site.

What happens when you try to reply to a message?  I'd like to know so I can see if there is anything wrong with the site   police

Hi there,

Yes, it´s about private messages

When I reply it says, message sent, but then, my outbox is empty, and the person does not seem to receive anything.

Not sure what I can do :smiley

Ah, OK.

That's actually normal, believe it or not   afro

Messages only get saved in the outbox if you click the hidden-at-the-bottom "save a copy in my outbox" thingy.  It's a silly behaviour of SMF Forums I never found a way to get around.

Rest assured, your message was sent.  Whether it was seen and read is another story!

Sometimes people just don't notice they have a new message as there is no pop-up, just the alert at the top of the page.  If Madman sees it, I think he'd respond.  Patience may be needed as sometimes forum communications are slow.

I'm sure he'll get back to you if he's still interested in your project.  If not, just re-post in your other thread and state that the job is still available.

Good luck with it   afro

It's nice to see that I'm missed if I don't reply immediately  grin. I wonder if anyone will come looking for me if I don't reply for a couple of weeks... Or will I end up like the lady in Rotterdam that was found dead after 10 years? Anyway, I was just out for the weekend in an internet unfriendly environment (and enjoying myself!). It's actually quite nice to walk around in a place where the trees and mushrooms are organic instead of virtual...  wink
