Thanks to Sockratease , lxh , Mr Administrator ,answers  on my previous posts i have made quite a start so thanks guys.

I am currently trying to simulate the texture-surface of ice but when i tried to add some reflections with a view to creating a more realistic 'crystal' effect i got myself into trouble.
It seems that i cannot achieve the reflections of shapes and light on an object by tweaking the numbers. (depth and Spec ?? )
The result is an overall brighter image and re-rendering it so as to undo the unwanted effect  can be an extremely slow and nerve-racking  procedure .. cry
Maybe the problem exists because the surface i'm working on is not smooth like a sphere for example  huh?

Any hint on how to properly calculate reflections ?
Thanks

The reflection effect depends on the surface, as you already suggested... you need a flat surface to get a clean mirror effect.

Beside that, the amount of "Object Specular Colors", defined with the Lighting "Spec" Button, will stear the amount and colors of the reflections. So it it possible to give some surfaces more reflections than others.
See also at "The pearl" example parameters for this.

Depth and Spec in the function itself is only the overall amount and depth of rays that are calculated.

And of course you don't need to rerender the whole fractal always, just the reflections itself must be rerendered when parameters where changed!  All light changes will reset the reflections, you can use also the "reset" button in the DoF function to reset it.

Use a small rectangle preview on different image spots. wink Less nerve racking

for Jesse; Often I save a complete m3i including the reflects but the reflects are NOT saved... I wasted a long time for nothing fiery

Or I am wrong? undecided

(and I am still waiting for the answer of the PM)

Of course not, but you just have to read what is written in the postprocess window above that function!
