I've noticed that when I use the paramaters some people make with their fractals they come up as white negative images, all white for the fractals with a greyish background, and the image size often is small, is this just because I'm using latest version, they are using oldest, or because they are doing other things to get the colours that don't translate into paramaters?  Just wondering if it's a problem I'm doing, or just normal.

Often the artist publishes preview parameters with different colors, image sizes, whatever.
And using own maps can lead to these whitening artifacts if you don't have such an map,
a little issue with lightmaps and the current program version, just turn this light off.

The parameter should give you a starting point for new discoveries, so this is nice anyways!

basically, any chopped down pic with colours or contrast that you like will do - in jpg or png. Use the X&Y offset and diffuser to get wide variety of colour/light transformations.
