Do you know that the mandelbrot disks aren't disks (they are not circular), so any attempt along these lines will always be an approximation, and if your disks touch exactly then the errors will accumulate disk by disk and end up causing self intersection.

Yes, but it is possible to recover the formula for the M-set from Lavaurs' algorithm. What I'm trying to do is first verify that my construction gives interesting results, then try looking at the formula it generates.

Of my last post here, I had in mind a construction Brooks & Matelski were fooling w in 1978, that they used later to claim they scooped Dr. M. on the M-set.  Obviously consensus was against that notion.  I haven't researched it, so I don't know if it would be useful to you.
