This is a Julia set, rendered in 3D using carefully massaged distance estimate data for height values. I placed the virtual camera quite close to the fractal so that the peaks appear to radiate out from the center, making it look like a flower The image was rendered in FractalWorks, a high performance fractal renderer for Macintoshes. amazing picture, but i do not get it, do you project the plane on a ball to achieve this blossom effect ??!? or is it just the camera position ? great how the side julias twirl .... excellent !!!!!!

Trifox,
The blossom effect is purely from the camera position.

I like these better than the landscapes!
Very Nice Work.
I may have to see what manner of flora I can pull out of FractalWorks...

I just created a 3D anaglyph image of the same fractal. You'll need red/cyan glasses in order to view this image: Regards, Duncan

Very Nice Work! Here's my take on flora - a Sunflowerbrot! I hope the image isn't oversized! It could stand a little work on the colors. I'd like to get rid of the blue, and bring out the Babybrot somehow, but that is straight from FractalWorks with no editing. Nice Concept, these flowers! Anybody else have some?

damn it, i have taken out the 3d rendering of mutatorkammer ... : : WHAT??? Is that a language barrier thing, or did you just say that Mutatorkammer will no longer render in 3D? I realize that it's destabilized the program since you introduced it, but I have all my old versions still, so I'll be able to keep making 3D Mutatorkammer images either way. Still... It would be a sad loss

no, it is just removed temporarily, i am still reworking it, using a model/view concept, and right now i am using only the 2d view, it is still much work to do, but i it is making good progress, and i am content ....

Sockratease, Nice image. Do you like the bands of color, or would you prefer smooth color transitions? If you would prefer smooth transitions, replot the image and check "Calculate fractional iteration values" in the new plot dialog. Then open the color scheme editor and check "smooth colors using fractional iteration values". For the image you posted, I rather like the bands of color, but it's a matter of taste. If you want, post the fractalWorks file here or email it to me and I'll see what I can do. I just posted another one to my pbase site: It's a fairly subtle variation on the last one. I wanted a different look in the center, so I changed the Julia seed point to be a "cauliflower" image from "elephant valley" of the same baby Mandelbrot used for the seed point of the last image. Nice image. Do you like the bands of color, or would you prefer smooth color transitions? Thanks! Glad you liked it. The bands don't bother me, it's just the actual colors involved. Easy enough to edit. I will definitely play around with the coloring ideas you mentioned though. I just felt the blue was out of place in the color scheme of this image. I could have cropped it, I suppose. But I'll just play with the actual palette. If you want the file I'll upload it anyhow - it's no work at all to do so. This was mostly an effort to make a flower like image from a Mandelbrot instead of a Julia fractal. I may need to resort to an image editor to bring out the baby Mandebrot in the center though. Does FractalWorks have "Inside" and "Outside" color mapping like I have seen in some Fractal Generators? That would allow the baby brot to be any color at all, or even a pattern. It looks perfectly clear on my laptop, but at home it is very hard to see the center of the image. It's the Gamma Correction on the laptop I guess.
