Hey guys,

Just wondering why so many posts relate to Mandlebulb! My brother showed me a cool but primitive one a few years ago, but...

I would have assumed that other software is still light-years ahead unless I'm missing something, ie XenoDream, UltraFractal and Apophysis.

Thanks.

You don't know well what you are talking about... I think grin
And please respect software authors.

Rapid progress has been made in the last 2 years in the 3D fractal domain. The software you quote are great but cannot compete with Mandelbulb3D or Mandelbulber or Fragmentarium (and others of course, I just quote the top 3 that come to my mind) when it comes to rendering last generation 3D fractals.

i think as well that xenodream is a great program, but hence it isnt free very few are using it,
the free version is called incendia and i think those programs are defintely cool because they allow a more decent creation of
objects, but relatively hard to understand, comparable to flame fractals where most findings are pure random

the thing with the bulbs, and especially hybrids is, that they come ready out of the box, und one can easily adjust params and watchwhat happens, without needing to understand a single bit .....

i recommend a glance in the gallery http://www.fractalforums.com/index.php?action=gallery to see what's what today. maybe your assumptions change afterwards.

No, really... Most findings are clones of a "style" cheesy

Sorry, I was clearly mistaken.

I hadn't browsed the gallery or tried the program yet, and no disrespect to the author was intended.

The one my brother showed me may be unrelated for that matter.

It looks great, although biting off another interface as complex as XenoDream's scares me!

when it is really "a few years ago" it is also possible that it was a very early mandelbulb rendering. the first appeared 2009...
